Guide n° 07 - Midi/Camargue

In guide n° 7 we follow the "Two Seas" Canal from Castets-en-Dorthe to
Beaucaire and all the other waterways of south-eastern France. There is also a map of the Étang de Thau, an intercoastal lake classified as maritime waters but accessible to inland craft.

The Canal du Midi is the main subject of this guide. Dug in the 17th Century, this famous waterway still has most of its original structures. To enable you to admire them, they are all identified on the maps: bridges, spillways, siphons and aqueducts, carefully restored and still in service after more than 350 years.

Essentially destined for boaters, this guide is also adapted to the needs of the numerous cyclists who follow the canal's towpath. For example, the camping grounds and roads leading to them are shown.
